Promo codes

Create discount codes for your event on the Coupons tab — percent or dollar off, usage caps, minimum spend, ticket-type scope and a featured offer.

Promo codes live on your event's Coupons tab. Open your event → Coupons → Create a coupon (or New coupon once you have one). Each code belongs to one event and only works at that event's checkout.

Create a code#

  1. Open the Coupons tab

Go to Events, open the event, then choose the Coupons tab.

  2. Enter the code

Type it in Code (required). Codes are automatically uppercased, and customers can type them in any case — earlybird works for EARLYBIRD.

  3. Add a description

Description is labelled as an internal note, but fill it in: a coupon can't be saved without one. If you make the code featured (below), customers see this text.

  4. Choose the discount

Under Discount (required), pick % or $:

    • % — a percentage off each eligible ticket (1 to 100).

    • $ — a flat dollar amount off the eligible part of the order.

  5. Set limits (optional)

  6. Set an expiry

Pick a date and time in Expires (optional). Despite the label, a coupon currently can't be saved without an expiry — if saving fails with "Please fix the highlighted fields", check that Description and Expires are both filled in. The time is in the event's own time zone.

  7. Save

Choose Create coupon. New coupons are switched on straight away.

Use a different code for each event and each campaign. Two coupons with the same code on the same event can stop the code working at checkout.

Limits and scope#

FieldWhat it doesIf you leave it blank
Max redemptionsHow many orders can use the code. Counts completed orders, not tickets — one order of four tickets is one redemption. Once it's used up, customers see "This code has reached its limit".Unlimited
Min spend ($)The order total (before the discount) must reach this amount. Below it, customers see "Spend $X to use this code".No minimum
Applies toTap ticket types to limit the discount to them. Only shown when the event has ticket types. All ticket types (whole cart)

A customer can use one promo code per order.

How a dollar discount is shared out#

A $ discount is spread across the eligible tickets in proportion to their price, and it is never more than the eligible tickets cost — a $20 code on a $15 order takes $15 off, not $20.

What the discount comes off#

Discounts come off the price the customer pays. Your booking fee is then worked out on the lower price, so you pay a smaller fee on a discounted ticket. See Fees explained.

Switch on Featured (promoted on the public page) to show the code on your event page as a Special Offer banner above the tickets: "Use code CODE at checkout for X% off your tickets", followed by your description.

  • Feature one coupon per event.

  • The banner shows a percentage, so feature a % coupon. A $ coupon doesn't display correctly in the banner yet.

  • The banner follows the Featured switch, not Active. If you switch a featured coupon off, also turn off Featured so the banner disappears.

Turning a code off#

Use the Active switch in the coupons table. Switched-off codes are rejected at checkout with "That promo code isn't active for this event"; switch it back on any time.

When a coupon's expiry passes, the table marks it Expired and its switch is locked. To be certain a code stops working at a set time, switch it off yourself as well.

Coupons can't be deleted — switch them off instead. To change a code's settings, tap its row to open Edit, change what you need and choose Save changes.

Tracking how codes perform#

Once you have a coupon, the Coupons tab shows Active coupons, Total redemptions, Discounts given and Avg discount / use, plus a usage chart (24h, 7 days, 30 days, All time). The Redemptions column shows uses against the cap (for example 12 / 50) and the total taken off.

Discounts also appear on the Reporting tab as Discounts applied. See Reporting and analytics.

Want to see what a partner or promoter sells, rather than give a discount? Use the Promoters tab to give each promoter a tracking link.

Duplicating an event#

When you duplicate an event, its coupons are copied to the new draft by default.

What customers see#

Customers enter the code in the Promo code box at checkout. For the customer's side, see Using a promo code.
