Removing and restoring venues

Venues can only be removed by platform admins, and removal is always a reversible soft delete. How the admin Venues tab works.

Internal

This page is for ShowTix platform admins only. These screens are not visible to hosts.

Hosts can create and edit venues but can never delete one — there's no delete option for them anywhere, in the app or the API. Removing a venue is a platform-admin action on Platform Admin → Venues (/admin/venues), and it's always a soft delete: the venue is hidden, not erased, and you can restore it at any time.

What hosts can do with venues is covered in Venues.

The venue list#

Venues are sorted by name.

  • Search venues by name or suburb... matches the venue name, suburb or address.

  • The Listed / Removed / All switch chooses which venues to show. It starts on Listed.

ColumnWhat it shows
VenueName (links to the venue page at /venues/<id>) and address, or "No address"
OrganisationThe owning organisation, or Shared directory if no organisation owns it
EventsHow many events use it, with the number still upcoming in brackets
StatusListed, or Removed · *date*
ActionRemove or Restore

Platform admins can edit any venue from its venue page, the same way the owning host would.

Removing a venue#

  1. Find the venue and click Remove.

  2. The Remove venue name? dialog explains what will happen, including how many events reference the venue and how many are upcoming.

  3. Click Remove venue.

You'll see "Venue name removed — restore it any time from the Removed filter".

What removal does#

  • The venue disappears from every listing, search and venue picker, and hosts can't choose it for new events.

  • Events that already use it keep showing it. Their tickets and orders are untouched.

  • Nothing is erased — the venue is stamped with a removal date (deleted_at).

Removing a venue that's already removed does nothing and keeps the original removal date.

Before removing a duplicate, check the Events column. If upcoming events use the duplicate, they'll keep pointing at it — moving events to a different venue is done by the host from the event.

Restoring a venue#

  1. Switch to Removed (or All).

  2. Click Restore on the venue.

You'll see "Venue name restored". The venue is listed again and hosts can pick it for new events.

Not available yet#

  • Permanently deleting a venue

  • Merging duplicate venues, or moving all of one venue's events to another in one step
